Apr 17, 2009 Dubai

This morning after breakfast at the hotel, OSSN participants will depart for a half-day tour of the city. This is a fascinating tour through the city of Dubai, also referred to as the City of Gold. The journey begins at the magnificent Jumeirah Mosque and continues along the Jumeirah road, which is most luxurious urban area in Dubai. Pass in front of the Mercato themed shopping mall and stop for photographs at the Burj Al Arab Hotel (Arab Tower). Then head along the skyscraper area of Sheikh Zayed Road, also referred to as “Little Manhattan”, where we pass by the Emirates Towers and the Dubai World Trade Centre. Then we drive along the Abeel road, passing by the Palace of Sheikh Mohammad, as well as the Rashid Palace, (No Photography). From here, head towards the Dubai Creek, where we also make a stop for photographs of the Creek side. Thereafter you proceed towards ‘the Bastakiya district’ which is the old part of Dubai where you find the old – wind tower houses, which were built by the wealthy merchants of the past. The next stop is the 150 year old Al Fahidi Fort Museum, which shows some interesting artifacts that throw light on Dubai’s historical links with trading and pearl diving. The tour then takes us to the Abra Station, (the ancient water taxi ferry) to take a short ride across the “creek.” Before ending the tour walk through the famous Spice and Gold Souqs which will dazzle your senses and give you an insight into Dubai’s growth as a major trading center.

The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

This evening we will experience a romantic dinner aboard a traditional “Arabic Dhow” that glides silently along the “creek of Dubai” under a starry sky. This cruise aboard this traditional wooden vessel offers an intriguingly different view of this amazing city. You will see many other wooden vessels, which still brave the open seas to deliver it's goods to far away places, as well as the super modern Yacht's and ships. Enjoy the scenery by night with its beautifully lit city, which is truly mesmerizing. Admire the architecture of places such as the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, the spectacular Chamber of Commerce building and also Sheikh Saeed’s house and the Heritage Village. A sumptuous dinner is served whilst you cruise along. Enjoy the delicious taste of true Arabian hospitality. This unforgettable romantic evening cruise includes an international buffet dinner. Relax! Indulge! Enjoy! Return to your hotel for the night. (B,D)

Special Bedouin Evening in the Desert!

Breakfast is at the hotel followed by morning at leisure.

This afternoon around 1500 hrs, OSSN will head out to the desert of a Desert Safari Extravaganza!! Proceed to the high dunes to do ‘dune bashing’. For OSSN’s adventurous members, the driver takes you on a roller coaster ride, dune after dune, before giving you a short break at a camel farm to see the ‘ship of the desert’. Wait at the top of one of high dunes watch a magical sunset.

Drive to a Bedouin camp after sunset, where you are welcomed in traditional Arabic style with dates and Arabic coffee. Settle in for the evening to the sound of the Arabic music and belly dancer giving a glimpse of Arabian culture.

While the music plays on, we’ll enjoy an open bar and appetizers. OSSN members may enjoy having their hands painted with beautiful designs drawn by “henna artists” while the men can smoke the ‘sheesha’ (Hookah) popularly know as the hubbly-bubbly. End the evening with a sumptuous barbeque dinner and a belly dance show performed by an expert dancer. Return to the hotel by 4x4 vehicles after an evening that will definitely be a memorable one!
