One to One With Joystar

As the home-based travel agent model continues to expand, OSSN spoke with William M. Alverson -- the chief executive officer of Joystar -- about what the future holds for this segment of the travel industry.

OSSN: There are many host agencies today. Who are your main competitors?

Alverson: There will always be companies vying for your customers, but if you're offering the best products and the best service, you really can make the competition irrelevant. For Joystar, it's less about the competition and more about us staying focused and executing on our business plan. That's also a spirit that we try to instill in our agents as they build their value proposition to consumers.

OSSN: What differentiates Joystar from other host travel agencies?

Alverson: The primary difference is that no other host agency cares more about their people than Joystar. This is evident in our value proposition to the travel agent community. We offer more tools, pay higher commissions, provide impeccable service, and grant stock options to all. And, because we don't charge any sign-up fees, our agents know our success is 100 percent tied to their success.
