It was just one year after I started my home-based travel business in 1992 that I somehow stumbled upon a meeting announcement in a trade magazine for OSSN, an association for home-based travel agents. Wow, I thought, a whole association just for home-based travel agents!! Back then I thought I was the only one running my business this way. I immediately sent in my reservation to attend.

The guest speaker for the evening was very informative and entertaining. However, the best information that I received that evening was not just from the keynote speaker, but from the agents sitting next to me. I was amazed how willing these agents were to share insights about their business. In one evening I picked up invaluable information by merely networking with the other OSSN home-based agents. It was because of those initial supportive encounters at that first meeting that I decided to become further involved with OSSN. In 1993 I became the San Jose Chapter Director and then in 1995 the Western Regional Manager.
