In the late 19th century, and throughout the 20th, many writers discovered Africa and its people as a profound setting for their books. Their characters became larger than life and their stories were exciting, provocative and the stuff of which dreams are made.

Ernest Hemingway referred to the world's second largest continent as "MMBA": miles and miles of bloody Africa. Its unique character, spectacular vistas and diverse cultures also gave him and other authors the inspiration to research and write about the lives of generations of pioneers who had explored and settled this land.

And, no part of the continent was richer in stories and legends than the country at the very tip: South Africa.
