Travel Niches: Grandtravel
by John Hawks

Ask any grandparents about bonding with their grandchildren, and they will tell you that the best opportunities arise when the parents in between are not around!

In the past, this bonding would occur during special visits to Grandma's house or that once-a-year visit from the grandparents during summer school vacations. These days, though, many Baby Boomer grandparents with money to burn prefer taking their grandkids on the road -- from camping trips and tours to cruises and resorts.

"Grandtravel" is big business for many tour companies, cruise lines, and travel agents. These trips with grandparents and grandchildren (without the parents in tow) typically include more components than other packages, because seniors traveling with small children want the basics covered (e.g., theme park tickets, roomy rental cars, hotel suites or adjoining rooms, included meals).
