In the sports world, commentators say athletes "snatched victory from the jaws of defeat" when they win very closely contested, hard-fought games.

When I see the way some home-based travel agents run their businesses, I always think the opposite. They actually snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!

When hard-working home-based agents fail in the travel business, it's the result in many cases of self-sabotage. They've teamed with the best host agencies ... they've sold the best travel products ... they've staked out the best markets and customer bases ... yet they still don't make enough money at the end of the month to make it selling travel.

In my years of experience working with home-based agents, I can say many of these sad stories start with crappy communication and a terrible business image. In turn, those factors lead to the biggest competitor many agents face: their own inability to handle travel business effectively when it's handed to them.
