Most home-based travel agents who choose to work with a "host agency" do so because they find that it is easier to accomplish their goals and earn a higher income by being part of a team rather than to trying to make it on their own. But, finding the right host agency can be as much about trail and error as finding your perfect soul mate!

Match Game

Make a list of your specialties, areas of expertise, and the type of business that you could bring to an agency. Confirm that the host agency is compatible to accepting your type of business and is able to support the needs of your client database. For example, if an agent comes to me and is mostly interested in selling airline tickets to corporate clients, I would let him or her know that my agency is a "Cruise and Vacation" agency and we would not be a good match for that clientele. I would recommend instead an agency that specializes in corporate business.
