The Art of Working Smarter, Not Harder
by Mike Daly

Returning recently from two travel industry conferences, I was reminded how important these opportunities are to network, learn, and gain new ideas in order to create success. Michelangelo said, at the age of 80, "I am still learning . . . " Although not 80 yet myself, I am nearing the 20-year mark of working, selling, consulting, and most of all, enjoying this ever-changing industry we call Travel and Tourism.

These conferences showcase and underscore the incredible opportunities that are out there for us all to grow sales. New products, new ships, new itineraries, new customer segments, new resorts, new technology -- all presented and communicated with the home-based agent, and your needs, in mind. It was wonderful to see how all of the major travel brands and consortia have embraced the home-based agent channel of distribution. Clearly, you are now recognized as a growth opportunity for them all. Even better was to see the eagerness of agents to learn -- attending seminars, asking questions, hungry for ideas. Each of you investing in your business and profession, investing in yourselves, and creating your success.
