Can This Trip Be Saved: Five Questions You Must
Ask About Travel Insurance
by John Hawks
As
we approach Memorial Day, forecasters have already predicted another
busy hurricane season this year. And, we see the news every week
about terrorist bombings here and travel accidents there. Take
a good look at the travel insurance policies you're selling
-- right now, before the summer travel season hits! -- and ask these
five questions about your policies:
1. What are the policy's restrictions and
exclusions, especially for pre-existing conditions?
The worst time to read the "fine print" in your travel
insurance plans is when you're sitting in front of your clients,
trying to answer their questions about coverage! Many travel insurance
companies these day provide "plain English" brochures that give
you, in everyday language, the ins and outs of their coverage rules
and levels. One issue that trips some travelers is failing to declare
any "pre-existing health conditions" -- an illness or medical problem
that you already know about before you buy the travel insurance
-- because many insurers will refuse to pay for treatments or benefits
related to that condition unless you have disclosed it in advance.
