For many travel agents of a certain age, the most evocative sound in the world is the plaintive whistle blast of a passing train. Growing up in an age when jet travel was reserved for the rich and famous, we associated trains with the promise of far-off places and adventures.
(During a recent OSSN meeting, I felt very old when more than half of the agents in the room said they’d never heard a train whistle except on TV!)
