Protecting Your Clients' Private Information

According to recent news reports, one of the fastest growing crimes in our society is “identity” theft. Hardly a week goes by that we don’t learn of some company “losing” the personal information in its data base and putting thousands of people at risk for identity theft. For the home-based travel agent, this begs the question, “What am I doing to protect the private information in my files?”
The nature of our business (home-based or otherwise) requires that we collect a great deal of personal information from our clients. Governmental security requirements often add more of our clients' private information to our data bases. This information, if it were to fall into the wrong hands, could result in our clients' identity being stolen and our business’ future placed in jeopardy.
