In my 24 years in the travel industry, I have found that not only are education and certification important, but without continued education, your competition will pass you by. When I entered the travel business 24 years ago, there were no major trade shows, no Internet to speak of, no webinars, few if any certification programs, NO OSSN, and no local educational opportunities to speak of. We had to learn by calling suppliers and taking the occasional visit from a district sales manager. Today, there are more opportunities than you can participate in. Be selective, but get as much education as you can, as it is the only way you can win over clients and beat the competition.
